SEMICONDUCTORS: In The Chips Today
By: David Utter 2006-04-05 Big names finished up but a trio of brands took a beating from downgrades in ratings issued by Credit Suisse. National Semiconductor (NYSE:NSM) ended the day up at 29.04. The company announced today its precision operational amplifiers and VIP50 process were recently selected by EDN Magazine as analog innovation of the year in its 16th Annual Innovation Awards. Also, AMD (NYSE:AMD) moved up 1.35 to 34.78 in trading today. The chipmaker placed ninth in Fortune Magazine's Top 10 most admired companies for innovation for 2006, and rated number one in the list for the semiconductor industry. Integrated Device Technology, Inc (NASD:IDTI) finished at 15.82, and announced it will webcast its fourth quarter fiscal year 2006 financials on May 9th after the market closes. Last month, IDTI announced it would partner with RadiSys to provide network search engine (NSE) solutions targeted at the emerging advanced telecom computing architecture (ATCA) platform. The ATCA specification effort has over 100 companies participating in its creation, the PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturers Group said on its website. Dow Jones component Intel (NASD:INTC), which finished today at a mild increase to 19.48 a share, endorsed the IDTI/RadiSys partnership: “The interoperability of our NPU products and software with IDTs NSE solutions allows us to help companies like RadiSys offer solutions targeted at emerging platforms, such as ATCA, with the goal of supporting high performance packet processing in communications networks,” said Frank Schapfel, Product Line Marketing Manager, Intel.
Unfortunately, a few companies were singing the downgrade blues after the Wall Street Journal reported Credit Suisse knocked ratings down from "neutral" to "underperform" for RF Micro Devices (NASD:RFMD), down 30 cents to 8.40; ON Semiconductor (NASD:ONNN) which moved up anyway, 14 cents to 7.31; and Fairchild Semiconductor Intl (NYSE:FCS) which remained at its open of 19.20. --- Tags: National Semiconductor, AMD, Integrated Device Technology, Intel, RF Micro Devices, ON Semiconductor, Fairchild Semiconductor Add to | DiggThis | Yahoo!
