McClatchy Papers Borrow Internet Strategy
By: David Utter 2006-04-05 The company purchased Knight Ridder with a combined deal of cash, stock, and debt assumption worth $6.5 billion, and they look like they plan to make some of that back by taking a Google-like approach to the web. MarketWatch's Bambi Francisco wrote about McClatchy's (NYSE:MNI) foray into the Internet. The company's newspaper unit has begun testing out a simplified look and feel for local search. Sites they have launched include Triangle.com, Southsound.com, and Sacramento.com. Triangle focuses on North Carolina's "Research Triangle" cities and best demonstrates the Googlesque approach to local search.
