Microsoft Founders Split On Obama And Clinton
By: Nathan Weinberg 2007-08-09 The News Tribune of Tacoma, Washington has a story on presidential campaign donors in Washington State, noting the money... ...raised in Washington by Barack Obama, John Edwards, Hillary Clinton, Mitt Romney, John McCain and Rudy Giuliani. Obama is the out-and-out winner in money there, with Clinton a distant third among Democrats, while only Romney has raised a decent among Republicans, but only about half of what Obama took in. What I liked is right at the end, when they mentioned this: Nationwide, Obama has many more small contributors than Clinton. But like all candidates, he relies on big checks for the majority of his money. Obama and Clinton split the support of Microsoft co-founders Bill Gates and Paul Allen. Gates gave $2,300 to the Obama campaign, while Allen gave $4,600 to Clinton. I can just see the two Microsoft founders, who have spent the last twenty years living very different but very visible lives, warring over this campaign season. Gates is retiring in the next six months, leaving him a lot of time to stump for a candidate, while Allen pretty much does whatever he wants already. Could we see the two in a war for the first time in god knows how long? No idea, but well see.
