Odeo Is Sold
By: Nathan Weinberg 2007-05-11 Obvious Corp, the company with a pedigree that reached back to Blogger has sold off Odeo, its podcasting service... ... to SonicMountain for about a million dollars. Odeo was the former Pyra Labs/Blogger peoples' try to strike gold for a second time, and while it never really took off, it featured some great technology and has a known name and userbase. The Obvious folks got their breakaway hit with Twitter, which is becoming one of those internet phenomenons, so it makes sense to say goodbye to the other business. (via Andy Beal) Last October, the folks at Obvious bought back their company from investors for a little over five million, so while they aren't exactly making a profit here, they're getting a little funding and giving Odeo a chance to succeed in other hands.
