Yahoo Joins With Comcast On Ad Deal
By: Nathan Weinberg 2007-05-02 Yet another major advertising deal has been announced, and this time, its Yahoo getting display and video advertising on Comcasts web site... ...which reaches over 2.5 billion page views and 15 million unique visitors per month. Yeah, at some point Comcast started to become a major web presence, something youd never know if you lived in my area, which they dont even service (yeah, Im just in the middle of New York, nothing major). Anyway, Comcasts traffic brings Yahoo a ton of new places for advertising, which is great news for the company and should help them keep up with the Googles. AdWeek says Google must be seething on this news, because it had been in negotiations with Comcast, not just for internet advertising, but also ads on Comcast cable TV. Andy Beal points out that it may eventually cost Google their search ad deal with Comcast, which expires late this year. Mark Cuban says the Comcast deal is bigger than you think, because Comcast.net has a private network video distribution platform, completely walled off from the rest of the internet, and now Yahoo has exclusive access to it. Yahoos ads can leverage the set-top boxes they go through for better targeting, and thus, a lot more money.
