Lately Yahoo! has been romping up on new grounds, at times leaving Google behind.

The latest is the Reuters report that Yahoo! has signed top corporate advertisers to run ads in 18 countries using its advertising system.

The regions covered are Western Europe, South Asia and the Americas. The countries included are Britain, Ireland, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, United States, Canada, Brazil, Mexico and Argentina. According to the report:

Yahoo said it has signed up major advertisers including Hilton's Embassy Suites, Infiniti, Intel Corp., Nissan, Pepsi & Co, Procter & Gamble Asia-Pacific and Singapore Airlines will be initial advertisers on Yahoo's mobile advertising system.

Steve Boom, Yahoo senior vice-president for mobile and broadband has said "This is really about Yahoo staking out its leadership in the emerging space on the mobile phone." There will be advertisements along the top of the home page. Browsers will have a choice of clicking on these interactive ads for more information as well as calling up the service providers directly.

Google is following strategies of its own with the sign up with Vodafone for display of Google Maps but Yahoo! seems to have scored in the shorter term.
