Google AdSense Referrals Adds Bonus Up To $2,000
By: Nathan Weinberg
2007-02-13 Google has announced some changes to its AdSense referral program, giving publishers the option of payouts up to a $2,000 bonus.
The old fee structure paid out $100 if a publisher you referred earned $100 in the first 180 days, while the new fee structure is a bit more complicated, but far more lucrative:
- If the referred publisher doesn't earn $100 in the first 180 days, don't worry about it. For every $5 they earn, up to the $100 level, you will earn $5. See, it's pretty hard for a brand new publisher to earn $100 in the beginning, so the new structure lets you earn money off new publishers and big publishers alike.
- If the publisher reaches $100 in the first 180 days, you get an extra $250.
- If, in the first 180 days, you refer 25 publishers, all of whom reach $100, you get an additional $2,000 bonus (you can only get one of these bonuses a year). That means you get $4,500 for convincing 25 good earning publishers in half a year to use AdSense, a pretty cool amount of cash.
The AdWords referral has been changed to work the same way, except the time period is 90 days, and the bonus is $600 for 20 advertisers (still a good deal, but nowhere as lucrative). Glad to see Google is acknowledging that the old terms were not worth it for the effort, and trying out better methods. Still, I doubt I'll ever be a fan of these referral programs until Google gets serious about cracking down on referral spammers.
