Google, Yahoo Make Deals
By: Jordan McCollum 2007-08-30 Google and Yahoo have each announced major deals today. Both deals are continuations of previous business relationships. Google & CNN As we mentioned yesterday, Google has long provided advertising on CNNs website. Although financial details were not disclosed, CNN renewed its partnership with Google for contextual advertising from AdSense. The press release states, Under the terms of the deal, Google will serve as the exclusive provider of auction-based text advertisements throughout CNN.com. The deal does not include site search. As Search Engine Land points out, U.S. searches on CNN.com are powered by Google, while the international sites searches are powered by Yahoo. Yahoo & Dex Yahoo expanded its partnership with online business directory DexKnows and other R.H. Donnelly properties. But its almost the opposite of Googles deal. Advertisers in Dexs online and paper directories will now have the opportunity to buy advertising, enhance their business profiles, and add coupons and graphics"to the appropriate pages on Yahoo Local and Yahoo Maps. Reminiscent of Googles April deal with PennySaver, which displayed coupons on Google Maps, the Yahoo deal expands Dexs advertising base on Yahoo from paid listings across a smaller subset of Yahoo.com, according to ClickZ.
