AdSense Sabotage With Click Fraud Email
By: Nathan Weinberg 2006-04-25 Here's a new kind of AdSense sabotage: Liew says that someone sent out a bunch of emails, pretending to be him... ..., telling people to click on his ads. Link: Liew Word of it got back to Google, and Google sent him an email explaining what they had discovered. The basic idea of the scam is to discredit the publisher to Google, and hopefully get his AdSense account shut down, without having to use click fraud (which is getting easier to detect). I gotta say, as far as scams go, this is a pretty smart one. However, it didn't work, as the AdSense people were willing to listen to and believe Liew, and now they'll be looking out for this sort of scam. Still, this sort of thing worries me. I'm getting married, and I definitely am going to need that AdSense money. What if somebody hurt my account? The real question: Who sent the emails? Is there a detective on the case?
